The Soundtrack of Our Lives

by Shannon on Wednesday, 31 of January, 2007 at 7:30 pm

I once heard someone describe the music of Yanni as the “sound track to life.” Now, I’m sure there are people out there who agree with this, and all I can say to that is, “Blah! What the hell is wrong with you?”

Sure Yanni’s okay, I guess, but the soundtrack to your life? Give me a break! You’re letting a man who has had some questionable taste in facial hair and obviously taken way too many Zanies set the tone and mood of your life. Are you people sleeping all day or sitting in yuppie coffee shops discussing the finer points of existential art?

No, dear reader, Yanni is not for me. But this comment about the questionable appeal of Yanni did get me thinking about what music and sounds I would want accompanying my day-to-day routine. I’m not just talking music here, I’m talking the quintessential bleeps, whooshes, and other overly-synthesized sounds that can only be found in science fiction. (Read more…)

Star Wars: Passing on the Legacy

by Shannon on Tuesday, 30 of January, 2007 at 6:40 pm

So the other day I had a geeky moment of weakness and picked up Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy game. I don’t play video games much these days, occasionally the Legend of Zelda for the Gamecube, and sometimes I’ll even go old school and play it on the ancient Nintendo I got for my husband a few years ago. But this Star Wars game just looked like too much fun to pass up, and I figured my kids would like it eventually. I have three boys; seven, five and one year. I didn’t really expect them to get into the game that much right now, but I figured in a year or so my oldest would love it. So, I brought it home and popped it in, and the two oldest all gathered around like they always do when they see a new game, and much to my surprise they liked it. In fact they loved it. They’ve been playing it for about a week now, heck they won’t even let me play it. (Read more…)

About Me: Why I’m fabulous and the universe loves me

by Shannon on Monday, 29 of January, 2007 at 7:38 pm

This is my first post on Sci-fi Jedi so I thought I’d start with a little about who I am and why I’m awesome. Cause even though you don’t know it yet, I am.

For starters I’m a writer. Mostly of fantasy but I do mainstream when the mood hits. I’ve written non fiction too, including articles on writing . I would say I have a great sense of humor but I happen to think that people who say that actually don’t.

In this blog I hope to do several things; first, and most important, to have fun, second to speak my mind and third to annoy the hell and/or offend someone. Those are basically my goals in all aspects of my life and this blog shouldn’t be any different.

However, before we begin this journey together there are several things you should know about me, secrets that I don’t usually let strangers in on. But since you’re about to be spending some time with me I suppose we’re not really going to be strangers. (Read more…)
